Trade Rumor: Yankees will consider Chase Headley

As the Yankees search around the third base trade market one of the names they will consider is Chase Headley of the Padres, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.

Headley, 28, is hitting .268/.361/.423 in 98 games this season and those numbers jump to a very impressive .279/.378/.488 when he’s away from the spacious Petco Park. So he would probably be the ideal replacement for Alex Rodriguez.

It’s hard to imagine the Yankees being aggressive in making a deal for Headley though. For one thing A-Rod isn’t a full time DH yet and Headley is not a free agent for a couple of years yet. Perhaps the Yankees are ready to move A-Rod to DH next season or might consider using Headley to replace Swisher next year, but both seem unlikely.

There is also the fact that the Yankees are trying very hard to hang on to their important prospects as they try to get under the $189 million payroll by 2014. Either way, a deal for Headley seems unlikely.
