In order to make room for Chad Qualls, who was acquired from Philly over the weekend, the Yankees optioned the struggling reliever Cory Wade to Triple-A.
Wade, 29, was a pleasant surprise for the Yankees last season when he put up a 2.04 ERA, 6.8 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 over 39.2 innings after they got him for virtually nothing. He even started off this season well, but lately he has been a mess. In his last 20 games, he has a 9.68 ERA, 9.17 K/9, and a 3.1 BB/9.
I expect that we’ll see Wade back in the Bronx again soon, but he’s been getting hit extremely hard lately and something had to happen.
