Yankees designate Dewayne Wise for assignment

In order to make room for the newly acquired Ichiro Suzuki on the Yankees roster they have designated Dewayne Wise for assignment.

Wise, 34, is a 10 year veteran in MLB who came to the Yankees with a strong defensive reputation, but without much else. After working with hitting coach Kevin Long, Wise said he felt more comfortable at the plate than ever and it showed as he hit .341/.357/.659 in 18 games since May 22nd.

In comparrison Ichiro hit .242/.262/.326 in the same time frame.

Wise also pitched a shutout inning on June 29 against the White Sox and made a memorable non-catch against the Indians on June 26.
