Yankees likely without Swisher in Seattle

Nick Swisher strained his groin over the weekend against the Athletics and missed the final two games of the series. While it doesn’t appear to be a significant enough injury for the disabled list, it does appear that they will be without him throughout the series in Seattle.

“He said he wasn’t as stiff today as he was (Sunday),” Joe Girardi told Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger. “He’s still day to day. My guess is we won’t have him in Seattle and hope to get him after that. We’ll just have to see. Let’s see how he feels.”

At this point it almost seems that the Yankees might be better off putting him on the 15-day DL. Last time Swisher suffered a similar injury and wasn’t put on the DL, not only did it strain the roster it also seemed like he was rushed back and struggled for a few weeks following his return.

Unfortunately the Yankees might not have that luxury as they are thin at the Triple-A levle when it comes to outfielders. Perhaps they could put Swish on the DL if they claim Rick Ankiel off waivers or make a trade. However, there doesn’t appear to be anything happening imminently.
