Yankees recall David Phelps

After the game ended yesterday the Yankees made a move to recall David Phelps from Triple-A and sent down D.J. Mitchell in his place.

Phelps has been on fire lately, striking out 31 batters in his last 21 innings in the minors. He’ll serve as the Yankees long man in the pen, but he is stretched out and available to start if needed.

Freddy Garcia is starting Friday so expect Phelps to be the first one called out of the pen if he struggles. And if Sweaty Freddy really struggles, expect Phelps to take his next start in the rotation (Although Sweaty looks like he’s in the rotation until Andy Pettitte comes back).
