BBDP August 13th: Romine goes 2/4 in Triple-A

BBDP MVP: Adonis Garcia – 2/3, 2B, BB

River Ave Blues article wrote an article about Slade Heathcott, it’s a good one. Also, happy birthday to Jose Mesa Jr., I look forward to seeing you pitch!

Triple-A Empire State: W 6-4 vs Syracuse. W: Claiborne (2-0)

Kevin Russo: 1/5, 2B, 3 RBI (.297)
Corban Joseph: 1/5, RBI, K (.255) No homer today.
Ed Nunez: 0/5 (.218)
Ronnier Mustelier: 0/5, K (.288)
Brandon “Bash Brother” Laird: 2/5, 2 R, 2 K (.252)
Austin “BRomine” Romine: 2/4, K (.214)
Melky Mesa: 0/4, R, K (.160)
Preston Claiborne: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, K (6.14 ERA)
Cory Wade: 2.1 IP, H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K, HR (1.99) Rough outing. His prospects for getting back in the big league bullpen in October are looking grim.

Double-A Trenton: L 4-8 vs Reading. L: Nuno (7-4)

Abe Almonte: 0/4, RBI, K (.278)
Jose Pirela: 0/5, K, 2 E (11) (.301) Coming back down to Earth. 7 for his last 41 (.171)
David Adams: 1/4, 2B, RBI, BB (.316) All he does is hit.
Zoilo Almonte: 0/4, BB, 3 K (.274)
Luke Murton: 2/4, 2 K (.253)
Addison Maruszak: 1/3, R, BB, K (.277)
Adonis Garcia: 2/3, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB (.351) Tearing the cover off the ball since joining Trenton. That’s a very, very good sign.
Vidal Nuno: 5.2 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 3 HR (2.57 ERA) 3+ runs in four of his last five outings. He’s still struck out 61 in his last 57.1 innings pitched though. Nine homers in his last eight games have killed him.
Josh Romanski: 0.1 IP, H, ER, K (5.06 ERA) I’d be surprised to see him back with the Yankees next year. He can sign elsewhere if he wants.

Low-A Charleston: L 3-4 vs Asheville. L: Goody (1-2)

Ali Castillo: 0/4, RBI, BB, K (.327)
Cito Culver: 1/3, 2 RBI, BB, CS (10) (.228) Still getting hits at a high rate at the end of the season.
Ben Gamel: 1/4, K (.298) Hangin in there (hitting .228 in his last 10 games).
Dante Bichette Jr: 0/3, BB, K (.241) Hopefully he learned a lot this year and can take that with him in the offseason.
Saxon Butler: 0/4, 2 K (.222) To me, this was predictable. College guy who strikes out a lot and mashed inferior pitching in Staten Island.
Robert Refsnyder: 0/4, R, K (.194)
Matt Bashore: 4 IP, H, R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K (3.78 ERA)
Brett Gerritse: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 K (3.97 ERA)
Nick Goody: 0.1 IP, H, ER, BB (1.33 ERA) Hiccup.

GCL Yankees: 7-6 vs GCL Pirates. Game suspended in the top of the 9th.

Mikeson Oliberto: 0/4, R, BB, 2 K (.262)
Austin Aune: 1/5, K (.276)
Greg Bird: 2/3, R, BB (.286) Nice.
Yeicok Calderon: 3/3, 2 R, 2B, BB (.262)
Miguel Andujar: 1/4, R, K, E (14) (.243)
Chris Breen: 1/2, R, 2 BB (.319) Love this kids bat, hope he can stick behind the dish.
Nathan Mikolas: 2/4, 3 RBI, K (.157) He needed a game like this, should be a good momentum builder.
Jerison Lopez: 0/3 (.316)
Angel Rincon: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 K (2.35 ERA)
Rich Mascheri: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, BB, 2 K (0.00 ERA) Indy league signing, I’m pretty sure.
Rony Bautista: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (3.96 ERA) Not the best performance, but he’s been pretty good all season.

Empire State Yankees: John Maine (5-4, 5.56 ERA)
Trenton Thunder: Mikey O’Brien (4-5, 4.46 ERA)
Tampa Yankees: Matt Tracy (5-4, 3.2 ERA)
Charleston River Dogs: Phil Wetherell (5-6, 6.22 ERA)
Staten Island Yankees: New York-Penn League All-Star game.

  1. uyf1950 says:

Now if Romine can only keep it up but perhaps more importantly stay healthy.

  2. Greg Corcoran says:

Seriously. We could use some production from the catcher! Martin's been better recently at least though.

    • uyf1950 says:

Greg, "better" is a deceiving word. Yes he has been "better" but for most of this season he has been absolutely terrible offensively. Now instead of being an "automatic" out. He's an almost automatic out. Just my opinion.

      • Greg Corcoran says:

Well, he's nine for his last 34 (.265) with three walks (.342 OBP). That's about what you'd expect from him IMO. Of course he'd have to continue that production for the rest of the season for it to mean anything.
