BBDP August 16th: GCL Yankees give up seven unearned runs, Zoilo explodes

BBDP MVP: Zoilo Almonte – 3/5, 2 HR, 3B, 6 RBI. One of the best games from anyone on the farm all year.

Abraham Almonte out 7-10 days via Josh Norris.
Here’s a kid asking some of the Tampa Yankees who their favorite action hero.

Triple-A Empire State: W: 5-4 vs Pawtucket. W: Whitley (9-5) S: Igarashi (8)

Chris Dickerson: 0/3, 2 BB, CS (2) (.314)
Corban Joseph: 0/3, R, 2 BB (.251)
Eduardo Nunez: 1/5 (.202)
Brandon Laird: 2/3, R, 2B (.253)
Austin Romine: 1/3, R, RBI, BB (.211)
Melky Mesa: 2/3, R, HR (3), 3 RBI, BB, K (.207) That’s number 17 on the season.
Chase “Whiffley” Whitley: 2 IP, H, 0 ER, K (3.62 ERA)

Double-A Trenton: W 14-12 vs Reading. W: Brett Marshall (13-5) S: Ryan Pope (5). Reading came all the way back from a 14-2 deficit.

Jose Pirela: 0/5, K (.297)
Adonis Garcia: 0/3, 2 R, RBI, BB, 2 K (.265) Hello Earthling, nice to see you’re back (aka he’s come back down to Earth).
“Boilin” Zoilo Almonte: 3/5, 3 R, 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, K (.284) Those were his third and fourth homeruns in the last eight games. He’s 14/37 in the last nine (.378)
Addison Maruszak: 2/5, 2 R, RBI, 2 K (.276)
Kevin Mahoney: 2/4, 3 R, HR (10), 2 RBI, BB, K, SB (4) (.257)
JR Murphy: 3/5, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI, K (.242) Big game for JR.
Rob Segedin: 1/5, R, 2B, RBI, 2 K (.194)
Walt Ibarra: 1/4, R (.289)
Brett Marshall: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 4 BB, 7 K (3.12 ERA)
Mark Montgomery: 1 IP, 2 H, ER, K (3.00 ERA)
Josh Romanski: 1 IP, 3 H, ER (5.24 ERA)

High-A Tampa: W 4-2 vs Clearwater. W: Ramirez (6-6) S: Pinder (7)

Ramon Flores: 0/3, R, BB (.291) Just six for his last 38 (.158). Big slumpin’
Slade Heathcott: 1/3, 2 R, BB, K, SB (14) (.296) I’m loving his resurgence.
“Stone Cold” Tyler Austin: 3/4, R, 2B, RBI, 2 SB (4) (.329) He’s done this at every level so far. Double-A will be a big test, but he’s already a top prospect no matter who you ask.
Kyle Roller: 1/4, RBI, K (.270)
Gary “The Sanchize” Sanchez: 1/3, RBI, BB, K (.280)
Jose “J-Ram” Ramirez: 5 IP, 3 H, ER, 2 BB, 8 K (3.49 ERA) 43 K and a 2.66 ERA in his last 10 starts over 40.2 IP.
Caleb “Gotham City” Cotham: 2 IP, H, 0 ER, K (4.39 ERA)
Brandon Pinder: 2 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, K (3.00 ERA)

Low-A Charleston: W 3-1 vs Augusta. W: Allen (4-7) S: Goody (5)

Ben Gamel: 0/3, RBI, K (.297) Also big slumpin’, 8 for his last 40 (.200)
Cito Culver: 0/3, BB, K (.222)
Dante Bichette Jr: 1/4, 2 K (.240)
Saxon Butler: 1/3, R, HR (1), BB (.243)
Robert “The Ref” Refsnyder: 2/4, R (.204)
Ali Castillo: 1/3, R, 2B, RBI (.322)
Scottie Allen: 5 IP, 2 H, ER, 4 K (4.5 ERA)
Daniel Mahoney: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, BB, K (3.57 ERA)
Nick Goody: 2 IP, H, 0 ER, 5 K (1.21 ERA) Looking to take the same course as Montgomery has so far. He’ll be just 21 to start next season, so if he makes it to Double-A like Montgomery has, he’ll actually be young for his level. Fun fact about Goody, he’s a switch hitter.

Short-Season Staten Island: L 2-3 vs Vermont. L: Varnadore (2-4)

Taylor Dugas: 3/3, BB (.323) Back at it again. 14 for his last 38 (.368) Still not hitting for power or stealing bases though. Just one double and one homerun in the last 10 games, with no stolen bases.
Claudio Custodio: 0/2, R, BB, E (20) (.238)
Matt Snyder: 0/4, K (.302)
Ravel Santana: 0/4, 2 K (.247)
Peter O’Brien: 0/4, 3 K (.180)
Isaias Tejeda: 0/4, K (.149)
Daniel Lopez: 0/3, 2 K (.217)
Jose Rosario: 0/2, R (.194)
Derek Varnadore: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, BB, K (2.93 ERA)

GCL Yankees: L 4-9 vs GCL Braves. L: Hensley (0-2)

Mikeson Oliberto: 2/5, R, HR (3), 2 RBI, K (.266) The pitchers have received most of the attention here, but a few of the hitters have put together good seasons, including probably the coolest name on the team, Mikeson.
Austin Aune: 0/5, 3 K, 4 E (13) (.263) 13 errors at shortstop. It’s just his first season so he has a ton of time to learn. Dreadful day for him.
Chris  Breen: 1/3, R (.315) He’s been so consistent. 11 for his last 35 (.314). He has three walks and a .359 OBP during that time.
Gregory Bird: 1/4, 2 K (.282)
Nathon Mikolas: 0/4 (.233)
Miguel Andujar: 2/4, R, K (.242)
Jerison Lopez: 1/4, R, K (.314)
Ty Hensley: 2.2 IP, H, 3 R, 0 ER, 2 K (3.86 ERA). There were a total of seven unearned runs let up by the GCL Yankees today. Without those runs, they win the game.
Dayton Dawe: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 K (3.60 ERA)
Hayden Sharp: 3 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 4 K (2.7 ERA) Don’t let the unearned runs fool you, this was a very good outing for Sharp. Here’s my “twitterview” with him before the season started http://bronxbaseballdaily.com/2012/03/twitterview-with-yankees-prospect-hayden-sharp/

Tomorrow’s pitchers:

Empire State: Warren (6-8, 3.77 ERA)
Trenton and Tampa: TBD
Charleston: Mitchell (7-10, 5.03 ERA)
Staten Island and GCL: TBD
