David Aardsma to pitch in rehab game Friday

It looks like Alex Rodriguez won’t be the only one rehabbing in High-A Tampa as he will be joined by relief pitcher David Aardsma, Aardsma confirmed on Twitter.

Aardsma looked like he was going to join the Yankees sometime around the All-Star break this season, but had a setback in late June and had to be shutdown. Brian Cashman had previously said that Aardsma would not pitch this year, but that doesn’t appear to be the case anymore. It is still somewhat unlikely though as I outlined in my piece on the September call-ups, the Yankees don’t exactly have a lot of space on the 40-man roster.

The bullpen has been a mess lately though so it might not be a bad idea to try to get him back in the Bronx. Although, as Joba Chamberlain has shown us it certainly is no guarantee that he’ll be 100 percent coming back from Tommy John Surgery and a hip injury.
