Phil Hughes shuts down the Jays

Phil Hughes continued his hot pitching as he beat the Blue Jays 2-1 at Yankee Stadium Tuesday night while holding to the Jays to just one run over seven innings. It was the 10th time in his last 12 starts that he has allowed three earned runs or less.

Rafael Soriano bounced back from a rough outing on Monday to get the save and David Robertson pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning.

The Yankees offense struggled in this one against Rickey Romero, who has had quite a horrible season. Which is to be expected when Steve Pearce, Russell Martin, and Curtis Granderson are the 4-5-6 hitters.

The Orioles won and the Rays are currently losing in the 8th to the Rangers. So their 3.5 game lead in the AL East remains, but they could improve their lead to five over the Rays.
