Before the trade deadline, the Giants tried to get the Yankees’ Eric Chavez, offering Nate Schierholtz.

That’s actually a solid offer from the Giants. Nate Schierholtz is not a spectacular player, but has a solid split against righties – hitting .296/.377/.504. He’s also not a free agent until after the 2014 season.
The thing is, especially with Alex Rodriguez on the DL, the Yankees need Eric Chavez. He’s done a solid job both offensively and defensively this season and has been damn good against righties himself – hitting .289/.356/.528 against them this year.
Too bad Schierholtz can’t play third, but then again the Giants probably wouldn’t have wanted Chavez then.
