Teixeria hopes to play Monday night

Mark Teixeira hasn’t played since last Thursday due to a sore wrist that began bothering him about three weeks ago, but he is optimistic that he can play tonight against the White Sox.

“There is definitely improvement,” Teixeira told Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com┬ábefore Sunday’s game. “We just want to give it one more day. Everyone agreed that you could probably push it today. It may feel OK, but it is best to give it one more day.”

Teixeira missed two games at the end of July for the same reason and had a cortisone shot. The Yankees have considered putting him on the DL this time around, but it sounds like they are going to avoid that. It’s probably best to give him as many days as he needs now to get to 100 percent for September and more importantly October.
