The Yankees shuffle their rotation

Not exactly sure why, it could be getting ready for Andy Pettitte, the playoffs, or just to skip Freddy Garcia, but the Yankees have decided to take advantage of Thursday’s off-day and have shuffled the rotation a bit.

Garcia was supposed to pitch today, but instead will be skipped one time through the rotation. Everyone else will pitch on regular rest which means David Phelps will pitch today, Phil Hughes will pitch on Sunday, CC Sabathia will pitch on Monday, then Garcia will go on Tuesday with Hiroki Kuroda pitching again on Wednesday.

I doubt they are looking so far ahead to the playoffs so it’s probably an effort to keep Garcia fresh. He had a bit of a dead arm to start the season and also trailed off a bit last season. Perhaps they are worried about him.
