Yankees fall into a tie for 1st place after loss

The Yankees are free falling. With a 5-2 loss to the Rays Tuesday night they have dropped four of their past five series and what was once a 10 game lead in the AL East has now become a tie.

The scary thing to me is that I don’t even think that the Orioles are better than the Ray, who are just 1.5 games back now. Luckily, the Yankees have an easy schedule over the final two weeks and Mark Teixeira and Andy Pettitte will be back before we know it, but things are certainly not looking good right now.

Speaking of Pettitte, Freddy Garcia has now gone three starts without even getting through the fifth inning which is alarming because their only other option for the rotation until Pettitte comes back is Adam Warren. So it’s likely he’ll be getting another start when his spot comes around again (hopefully with a very short leash).

Here is a list of things that have gone wrong for the Yankees. Tomorrow I will have a more optimistic list (I still expect them to at least grab a wild card).

The need to work Warren in for a few innings. He was due to start Saturday for Scranton-Wilkes Barre and right now he just riding the pine. He deserves a few innings.
