Yankees magic number down to 6 after beating Twins 8-2

For the second straight start CC Sabathia was lights out as he held the Twins to just two runs over eight innings in the Yankees 8-2 victory that gave them a series victory in Minnesota.

The Orioles, who have done a good job keeping up with the Yankees, also benefitted from a blow-out today, beating the Blue Jays 12-2 to remain 1.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East. The Yankees magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to six with just seven games left to play.

CC looked like he was on top of his game as he struck out 10 and gave the bullpen a much needed night off. Cody Eppley pitched an uneventful ninth to finish off the game.

The Yankees offense finally broke out against the Twins with a six run third inning that included a RBI-single from Robinson Cano, a two-RBI single by Nick Swisher, and a two-RBI triple by Curtis Granderson. The Yankees added two more runs in the sixth on a two-run shot by Chris Dickerson.

The Yankees start a four game series with the Blue Jays on Thursday and finish up with the Red Sox next week.

  1. Greg Corcoran says:

6 wins… 7 games. The way Baltimore has been playing lately, they're gonna need to win 5
