Looks like Pettitte in Game 2, Kuroda in Game 3

Yankees manager Joe Girardi hasn’t announced what the playoff rotation will be other than CC Sabathia as the Game 1 starter, but after he spoke with reporters on the subject it sure sounds like it will be Andy Pettitte in Game 2 and Hiroki Kuroda in Game 3.

When Girardi was asked if Kuroda, who has struggled with a 4.71 ERA over his last six starts, would start Game 3 this is what he said.

“That’s something that we’re going to have to talk about. Absolutely,” Girardi told Mark Hale of the NY Post. “[Kuroda] had an unbelievable season, and that’s something we’ll definitely consider.”

Kuroda was damn good for most of the season with a 3.32 ERA over 219.2 innings in 33 starts, but considering his recent struggles and Pettitte’s impressive results since returning from the DL it does make sense to bump Kuroda back. It’s not a huge deal either way as both will only make one start in the ALDS.

Nothing is set in stone yet, but it’s probably safe to assume that Phil Hughes starts Game 4.
