Phil Hughes is available out of the Yankees bullpen

Phil Hughes might have left Game 3 early with a stiff back, but that might not be the last time we see him in the playoffs.

Hughes told Andrew Marchand of that the back is feeling better and that he will be available out of the bullpen tonight. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we will though. With the rainout on Wednesday, CC Sabathia can no longer pitch Game 7 of the series if it gets that far. That likely means that Hughes will have to go.

Still, with their backs to the wall it will likely mean all hands on deck. So if Joe Girardi feels he must, he’ll probably go with Hughes and save David Phelps for a potential Game 7.
