Jeter and Cano win 2012 Silver Slugger awards

The Yankees offense scored the second most runs in baseball and they finished with the third best wRC+ of 109 with runners in scoring position this season and as a result two of them were given the Silver Slugger award — Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano.

Jeter definitely had a bit of a┬árenaissance┬áthis season as his .316 batting average and .791 OPS were their highest since 2009. It’s only Jeter’s fifth Silver Slugger. Jeter’s 117 wRC+ nearly beat out Asdrubal Cabrera‘s 112 mark.

Cano was the Yankees best hitter this season and there was nobody close to him at second base in the American League this year. He had a .313 average and set career highs with a .379 OBP, .550 slugging, and .929 OPS. His wRC+ of 150 was 37 points better than Dustin Pedroia‘s mark. It is his fourth Silver Slugger.
