Yankees expect to re-sign Mariano Rivera by the end of the week

With Andy Pettitte just about locked in, the Yankees will try to re-sign Mariano Rivera next and are close to doing that with the expectation that it will be done by the end of the week, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The deal is expected to be worth slightly more than what Andy Pettitte will get which is said to be above $10 million (Buster Olney said $11 million) so Rivera’s contract will probably end up being somewhere around $12 million potentially with incentives as well.

This is just more good news for the Yankees who are obviously trying to tie up loose ends before the Winter Meetings start next week. If the pitching staff is in place they will be able to focus on finding a right fielder, a catcher, and maybe a bench piece or two. No need to waste time talking to guys that week who were likely to return anyway.
