Rumor: Ibanez prefers to re-sign with Yankees, but Seattle showing interest 4

Earlier this week it was Ichiro Suzuki who lost patience with the Yankees for moving too slowly this offseason and now Raul Ibanez could move on as well.

Ibanez still prefers to return to the Yankees, but the Yankees have been slow with negotiations and meanwhile the Seattle Mariners have been showing him real interest, according to Joel Sherman of the NY Post.

Sherman notes that Ibanez, who played in Seattle for 10 seasons, still owns a home there and plans to eventually retire there too. He’ll be 41 next season, isn’t he practically retired already anyway?

On one hand, I’m sure it can be frustrating seeing other free agents signing big deals while they sit around waiting for the Yankees, but they really do have bigger worries than Ibanez right now. They can find a DH else where. Heck, they practically have a second half DH built in with Alex Rodriguez, but finding a third baseman, a catcher, a right fielder, those will be more difficult tasks.

Until Ibanez has a contract it can’t be a good situation for him with the uncertainty involved. If Seattle makes him an offer there is probably a good chance he’ll take it. At the very least because he’s so old the Yankees don’t have to worry about them making him a multi-year offer.

Really wish he would stay. What a great guy to have to have around.
Not to mention he's NYC born and raised.

The Yankees are in serious trouble unless a big move is made. They just let the only reason why they made it to the second round of the playoffs go to sign in Seatlle. Their team is very old and lacks depth. The way it stands now, they will be lucky to finish in 4th place, maybe even last. Every other team in the division has a better roster and is much younger with guys that are eager to win the division. I see it being Baltimore, Tampa, and Toronto in front of both the Yankees and Boston. Pretty SAD….Cashman better get creative and make moves simlar to other GM's with budget restraints.
