Rumor: Ichiro re-signing with the Yankees “will happen” 2

Ichiro Suzuki sounded like he was losing his patience with the Yankees heading into the Winter Meetings, but it sounds like a deal will eventually happen, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

“They are all over him,” one source told Rosenthal. “That (a deal with Ichiro) will happen.”

Once the Yankees land Ichiro, Rosenthal is reporting that they will explore the market for a right handed hitting platoon partner. They have been interested in Scott Hairston throughout the offseason.

Rosenthal also notes that if the Yankees do sign Ichiro it would not stop them from signing Raul Ibanez either.

Obviously any signings would all be to one-year deal as the Yankees try to cut payroll to $189 million by 2014. This is having a major effect on 2013 as well as they are unwilling to add any payroll at all in the form of multi-year deals.

I hope it happens. He's a very good player, still. At the stadium, he like all of the other lefty hitters will hit a few more dingers, and they get an outstanding fielder. Great clubhouse presence. Smallball will help the Yanks win in the post season.
