Still it seems unlikely that the Yankees will land him. He seems to be looking for regular playing time and a reunion with the Mets seems like it’s in the works. He is also looking for a multi-year deal which makes things more complicated for them.
The Yankees are looking at Hairston as a lefty masher and a potential replacement for Andruw Jones. He can’t hit righties much, but against landed handed pitching Hairston hit .286/.317/.550 which is perfectly in that Jones mold.
