Andy Pettitte will pitch for Team USA in the WBC

New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte

The World Baseball Classic is coming around again this spring and the rosters are starting to be announced. A few Yankees will probably end up playing, but the first once announced is a bit of a surprise — Andy Pettitte will participate as a member of Team USA’s rotation, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

The Yankees can’t technically keep players from participating, but they generally try to convince them otherwise. Pettitte is a veteran pitcher who knows his own body pretty well so they undoubtedly trust him to prepare for the regular season as much as he tries to help USA win. This is likely the last time Pettitte will get a chance to pitch in one of these too. He has never pitched in the WBC before.
