The Yankees have signed right handed reliever Chris Bootcheck to a minor league deal, according to Chris Cotillo of CLNS Radio.
Bootcheck is a 34-year-old with a terrible 69 ERA+ and 6.54 ERA over 147.1 innings in parts of six seasons. His 6.4 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 aren’t as terrible as his ERA, but still pretty bad.
Because he’s got such terrible numbers this is likely just a depth guy that they can send to Triple-A. Yankees GM Brian Cashman likes to stockpile relievers like this. He’s not likely to do much, but there is always a chance when it comes to relievers and somebody has to fill innings in the minors. It can’t always be prospects.

Hey, forget Bootcheck. The Yankee decision-makers need a headcheck.
