Yankees 2013 24th round draft pick: Sam Agnew-Wieland

Sam Agnew-Wieland24th Round, 734th Overall: Sam Agnew-Wieland, RHP, Appalachian State (NC), Year: J1, Bats: Left, Throws: Right, 6-foot-1, 210-pounds

Agnew-Wieland had a 5.15 ERA, 71 strikeouts and 43 walks in 85.2 innings this season.┬áHe throws a low-90’s fastball, a slider, curve, and changeup. He primarily a reliever at Georgia State and became a starter at Middle Georgia College. He continued as a starter at Appalachian State.

He doesn’t seem like much because of his 5.15 ERA, but he had a nice uptick in his stuff from his first to second years in college. Perhaps he’ll continue to develop even further with a professional coaching staff and surprise us. If he can really top out at 95 mph, which some reports say, he could be a sleeper.

Agnew-Wieland was strictly a strarter at Middle Georgia

    • Thanks. I read that somewhere and when I checked NJCAA's website it doesn't say if he started or relieved. It just said 58.2 IP in 12 GP. That's definitely high for a reliever, but low for a starter too. So I figured he might have done a bit of both.
