Tonight’s game was an indication that the Yankees are just about done for the 2013 season. Their elimination number is one, meaning any Yankees loss or Indians win will eliminate them from the postseason. With the surging Tampa Bay Rays coming into the Bronx, the Yankees struggled, getting shut out by the Rays 7-0.
To say the Yankees had their chances tonight is an understatement. The Yankees stranded eleven men on base, going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Hiroki Kuroda also had another poor start, most likely his final start at Yankee Stadium. He went 5.2 IP, giving up five runs on five hits.
The Yankees struggles are evident and it seems this team has just run out of gas at the wrong time. It may be time to thin about next season instead of keeping playoff hopes barely alive.
