What could the Yankees be for Halloween?

Halloween-1

So I was skimming through the internet for Yankees news (I realized I wasn’t going to find much on Halloween night) yet I stumbled upon a fun little article from LoHud Yankees. The article described what some players could dress up as Halloween and even give some commentary as to why the players would choose the respective costumes. As I read the article, I was inspired and had an idea on how to have some ghoulish fun from the comfort of my home office. I played a tiny game on Twitter, asking Yankees fans to pick a Yankee and assign them a costume that would fit their personality, their work ethic in 2013, anything. They didn’t even have to explain why. Here were the best responses (with added commentary by me):

PlayerBrett Gardner
Costume: The Flash
Idea by: @dfiregirl4 (Me)
Reasoning:
I’ve joked around during the season that if Brett Gardner were a superhero, he could be The Flash since he was so gosh darn fast when running around the bases. I’ve also joked that Gardner could be the Incredible Hulk since he gets extremely upset when situations become unjust during a ballgame, but we’ll save that for another day.

Player: Joba Chamberlain
Costume: King Arthur
Idea by: @fiatsypder
Reasoning:
I’m not entirely familiar with the kings and queens, so maybe it’s just so Joba could dress up?

Player: Ichiro Suzuki
Costume: Batman
Idea by: @Yankeesfanbx
Reasoning:
Ichiro could be Batman because he cares about his gadgets (his prized glove). Ichiro without his glove is like Batman without his Batmobile.

Player: Robinson Cano
Costume: Scrooge McDuck
Idea by: @tmwarning
Reasoning:
It might have something to do with Robinson Cano’s demands of $300 Million, hence why the Yankees couldn’t work anything out before the season ended.

Player: Alex Rodriguez
Costume: A needle
Idea by: @howie9416
Reasoning:
I don’t really have to explain this one. It’s not an entirely appropriate costume but I had to admit, the idea made me laugh.

Player: Mark Teixeira
Costume: Invisible Man
Idea by: @mikeyoh21
Reasoning:
Where was Mark Teixeira in 2013? Sure, he was there in the clubhouse but he wasn’t there on the field, hence why he’s Invisible Man on the diamond.

Player: Mark Teixeira
Costume: A piece of glass
Idea by: @chris_romano25
Reasoning:
Teixeira was pretty fragile. He injured himself in the batting cages before the World Baseball Classic, and then he injured himself two weeks after coming off the DL, effectively ending his season.

Player: Hal Steinbrenner
Costume: Mr. Krabs
Idea by: @Kingmgroth
Reasoning:
One of the few Twitter followers to give me reasoning to his answer: “they’re both cheap.” Maybe, sort of, kind of, yeah.

Player: Phil Hughes
Costume: A pitching machine
Idea by: @FelixZacharyDad
Reasoning:
It can’t hurt to dress up as something you aspire to be. Phil Hughes probably would like to have an ERA around 3.00 and have a breakout year, so why not become a pitching machine?

Player: Derek Jeter
Costume: Batman
Idea by: @OregonElk28
Reasoning:
Who else do you summon to restore order in Gotham City? Batman. Derek Jeter is the Yankees ‘Batman’, defeating the bad guys and looking good while doing it. Because hey…he’s Derek Jeter.

Player: Ichiro Suzuki
Costume: Superman
Idea by: @OregonElk28
Reasoning:
Imagine a fly-ball going down the right field line, looking as if it’s going to drop for a hit. All of a sudden, Ichiro comes out of nowhere, makes a Superman slide…and makes the catch like a hero. Saving the day just like Superman.

Player: David Robertson
Costume: A magician
Idea by: @FelixZacharyDad
Reasoning:
David Robertson is the Yankees “Houdini”. Makes sense to have him as a magician, making things…disappear.

Player: Chris Stewart
Costume: Aqua Man
Idea by: @Colton_Hoffman
Reasoning:
Just judging by his looks…Chris Stewart would make one awesome Aqua Man. Just saying.

Player: Derek Jeter
Costume: Mr. November (2013)
Idea by: @derekchick
Reasoning:
Living Derek Jeter’s Mr. November act once just wasn’t enough. We want to see it over and over and over again to our hearts content.

Player: Eduardo Nunez
Costume: Miley Cyrus
Idea by: @LohudYankees
Reasoning:
This was one of the costumes the Lohud blog came up with. They explained it as, “Don’t have to understand how or why success happens, as long as it happens.” As for commentary of my own…I have no words.
