Cano’s agents have dinner with New York Mets

Robinson Cano 11

I’m a little late to the party but as the saying goes, “better late than never”, right?

Anyway, according to sources Robinson Cano‘s agent (Jay-Z) had dinner with Jeff Wilpon and Sandy Alderson, the GM and manager of the New York Mets. Cano was not there for the meeting but it seemed at the time that the Mets had a legitimate interest in Cano.

The Mets might not sign Cano, but it shouldn’t be a joke that the Mets have met with Cano’s agent to possibly talk business. Yankees president Randy Levine said in an article with The Daily News today that the Mets could have Cano–but only at his $300 Million asking price.

The Robinson Cano contract saga could last all through the winter, maybe even before pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training on Valentines Day. From the last couple of days, it picture has become clearer for the teams involved in Cano:

1) The Mets might not sign Cano, but just showed interest which is what every team does during the offseason.

2) The Yankees might lose Robinson Cano to his ludicrous contract demands.

It’s times like these where you kind of wish you had Alex Rodriguez news right now…

Anyone who'd rather play for the Mets is touched in the head.

Hopeuflly the Yanks have learned their lesson to not offer lucrative, long term contracts that take players to their late 30's/early 40's. Be generous with a 5 year contract with 1 year option which will take him to 36 to 37 yrs old. Then the Yanks can focus on starting pitchers, left side of the infield and a few relievers.
