With preparing themselves for the event Robinson Cano could possibly go to another team, the Yankees placed a preliminary call to the Cincinatti Reds about 2B Brandon Phillips last night, reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The asking price for Phillips was declared “way too steep.”
Phillips batted .261/.310/.396 with 18 home runs during the 2013 campaign but he was also involved in two ugly PR incidents: The first incident was when Phillips publicly complained about how the Reds handled his contract negotiations. The second incident was when he went on a tirade towards a Cincinatti Reporter for pointing out his low OBP.
There were also reports that the Yankees made a preliminary call to free agent Omar Infante, but as baseball heads into the offseason the Yankees are still the favorite to sign Robinson Cano.
