Yankees have made inquiry on Brandon Phillips

With preparing themselves for the event Robinson Cano could possibly go to another team, the Yankees placed a preliminary call to the Cincinatti Reds about 2B Brandon Phillips last night, reported ¬†by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. The asking price for Phillips was declared “way too steep.”

Phillips batted .261/.310/.396 with 18 home runs during the 2013 campaign but he was also involved in two ugly PR incidents: The first incident was when Phillips publicly complained about how the Reds handled his contract negotiations. The second incident was when he went on a tirade towards a Cincinatti Reporter for pointing out his low OBP.

There were also reports that the Yankees made a preliminary call to free agent Omar Infante, but as baseball heads into the offseason the Yankees are still the favorite to sign Robinson Cano.
