Brian McCann is officially a Yankee

Brian McCann 2

The New York Yankees have officially signed catcher Brian McCann to a five-year contract with a vesting option for a sixth year. McCann passed his physical yesterday afternoon.

This was pretty rare but Hal Steinbrenner released a statement in the Yankees official press release:

“The singular and unwavering desire of this organization is to construct a team each and every season designed to play meaningful baseball deep into October … Our work this offseason has just begun, but we feel this is an important step towards what will be an exciting and rewarding 2014 season for our fans.”

McCann has a press conference scheduled for Thursday which will be televised on the YES Network.

Good signing by Cashman. Our offense from the catchers position last year was horrendous. Now, how about CC Sabathia for Matt Kemp. CC's velocity is on the way down and he will continue to struggle with minor ailments as he ages. I don't see him adjusting to age as Andy Pettitte did. Both have over priced contracts. Time for Pineada to gives us something in the rotation.

These are great news, McCann is a good player – I'm sure he will be an enrichment for the team.
