So once again, I was extremely busy today (unfortunately) so I took everything that happened today and put it into one blog post instead of writing 4-5 back to back. So here we go:
Carlos Beltran: I didn’t get a chance to view the press conference but Carlos Beltran was officially announced as a New York Yankee. So now that the signing is official, Joe Girardi can finally talk about him during interviews and can now start planning his lineup with Beltran in it. In case you missed it, Beltran is wearing #36.
Kevin Youkilis: It seems that Youkilis was unable to find a Major League Baseball job for the 2014 season, so he decided to go to Japan and play there for a year. Yep, you heard it right…Youkilis is playing in Japan. He’s going to play for the Rakuten Golden Eagles–the same team Masahiro Tanaka played for. I also found the article announcing it but it’s in Japanese–if you can read it knock yourself out and enjoy. If not–you might want to open Google Translator.
Coaching Positions: The search for a bullpen coach is over. The Yankees officially announced today that Gary Tuck will be their new bullpen coach. The Yankees also signed Mike Quade, Trey Hillman and Matthew Krause. Hillman will be the the Yankees special assistant of major and minor league operations, Quade will be the organization’s roving outfield and baserunning instructor and Krause will be the new strength and conditioning coordinator.
And finally, in case you’re one of those fans that likes buying the Yankees t-shirts (I have my own collection of them), they started selling Jacoby Ellsbury at Modells. I did buy the Ellsbury one but not for myself but I might want to consider purchasing one just for me. It would look quite nicely in between my Jorge Posada, A.J. Burnett and Brett Gardner t-shirts. Just saying.
