Source: Yankees likely to sign 2B Brian Roberts

Brian Roberts

Well it looks like the Yankees found a platoon player for Kelly Johnson–if he can stay healthy.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Yankees are most likely to sign former Orioles second basemen Brian Roberts. Now, since the Yankees are interested in signing Roberts, it doesn’t mean that they’re going to stop looking for other free agents on the market. The Yankees are also reportedly interested in a Mark Reynolds reunion.

Roberts has a history injury, mostly dealing with concussions. He hasn’t played more than 150 games since 2009 and only played 77 games last season. When Roberts is healthy, he has power in his bat and can drive in runs but the main question is if he could stay on the field longer than he could stay on the disabled list. If played right, Roberts could be a contributor to the 2014 team. If played wrong, it could turn into the ‘Kevin Youkilis experiment’ all over again.

Roberts was solid once…last time he played a full season was 2009 but if he can stay healthy, maybe he hits some doubles and steals some bases…i agree, not a bad gamble for the money…still would have preferred Infante but he's signed elsewhere…i really hope the Yankees leave Youkilis and Reynolds alone…Reynolds maybe but not Youk…
