Johan Santana

There are eight teams interested in free agent Johan Santana. The New York Yankees (along with their crosstown rival, the New York Mets) are among the teams that are vying to have Santana in their starting rotation.

All of the talks with Johan Santana are in the preliminary stages.

Santana is willing to sign a deal with any of the eight teams now if they are able to give him a stand out contract above the rest of the competition. If not, he will throw in January in order to showcase himself. If he is willing to shave for the Yankees, the Yankees believe he would be a good number four starter behind CC Sabathia, Hiroki Kuroda and Ivan Nova. The Yankees are planning to have the fifth spot in the rotation a competition between Michael Pineda, David Phelps, Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno.

Santana did not pitch in two of the past three seasons after having shoulder surgery. He threw the first no-hitter in Mets history in 2012 before re-injuring the shoulder.

These are interesting news – I like Johan Santana and think that he would be a good fit for the team. It would be good if they would be able to sign him.

The Yankees could use a lefty in the rotation, but who will replace him when he has his season ending injury on May 1?

  3. I'd like the Yankees to stay away from any pitchers that have had shoulder surgery. It's bad enough that they have Michael Pineda.

  4. Minor league deal only. Low base, loaded with incentives.

I like the idea incentive driven….win on the Tanaka sweepstakes and then sign Santana. Not a bad rotation and might even get lucky with Santana. Could fill in where Andy left off, people often forget how great Santana really was….yes I know he's not the same pitcher but you can't take away the experience and ability to pitch in big games. Go for it!!!
