Source: Yankees want to shop Ichiro instead

Ichiro 2

For the past couple of days, Brett Gardner trade proposals have been all the rage during the Winter Meetings, but Gardner isn’t the outfielder the Yankees would be willing to part with.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Yankees intend to keep Brett Gardner but they would be fine with parting with Ichiro Suzuki. The issue with attempting to trade Ichiro is the market for Ichiro could be very limited and I doubt Ichiro would bring back much.

When the Yankees acquired Ichiro, the San Francisco Giants were interested in him but that ship has since sailed with the Giants now fixated and fascinated with Gardner.

Not going to get much for him, I'd rather keep him for insurance.
