The New York Yankees have just signed free agent OF Jacoby Ellsbury to a 7-year, $153 Million deal pending a physical, according to Mark Feinsand of the Daily News.
The Yankees planned to play Ellsbury in CF and shift Brett Gardner to LF in 2014. Despite the sudden rumors that Gardner would be traded after the signing, a Yankee official confirmed that Gardner will stay with the team for the 2014 campaign.
“We have no intention of trading Gardner.” The Yankees official said in a statement.
Ellsbury hit .298 with 9 HR’s and 53 RBI’s in 2013 for the Boston Red Sox, swiping 52 bases. However, Ellsbury’s career high in stolen bases is 70, which occurred in 2009.
