Yankees trade Chris Stewart to Pirates

Chris Stewart 2

Remember a couple of days ago I predicted that Chris Stewart was either going to be traded or non-tendered? Well, I was half-right.

The New York Yankees announced earlier today that Chris Stewart was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a PTBNL (Player To Be Named Later). Stewart was the primary catcher for the Yankees in 2013 but disappointed when he hit .211 in 109 games. Stewart was expected to be non-tendered in the wake of Yankees signing free agent catcher Brian McCann.

Good chance that Yankees get lefty reliever for him. lol.

  2. Michael R says:

At any rate the Yanks will be improved with TPTBNL because Stewart was awful this past season.

  3. Vin Giordano says:

they have 2 good relievers..one is the kid we trade to them for ??? some right fielder waste of space….they got gerrit cole from that trade too

    • Mike Sommer says:

We never traded Gerrit Cole. The Yanks drafted him, he refused to sign, and went to college instead. When he re-entered the draft, the Pirates got him.

so what is the thinking about Gary Sanchez…do the Yankees still consider him to be their catcher in a couple years, maybe moving McCann to 1st base and/or do they see Sanchez as trade bait…
