Let the Masahiro Tanaka Games begin!
According to CBS Sports, Tanaka landed in the United States, (Los Angeles to be exact) where he will begin to meet with teams by Friday. Some of the teams that are expected to meet with Tanaka are the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees. The club that decides to sign Tanaka would have to pay a $20 Million posting fee to the Rakuten Golden Eagles.
Tanaka has been the number one priority for the Yankees after the signing of Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury earlier this winter. Teams (including the Yankees) may negotiate with Tanaka until January 24th.
The Yankees eye Tanaka as an upgrade to their starting rotation which currently involves CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova and Hiroki Kuroda. Michael Pineda, David Phelps and Adam Warren would battle during Spring Training for the final two spots should Tanaka choose to not sign with the Yankees.
