Spring Training begins this week

As I’m sure, Yankees fans have been counting down the days and hours until pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training. Now, just because Friday is the report date, doesn’t mean there aren’t players that are already in Tampa. Derek Jeter, Slade Heathcott, David Robertson, Shawn Kelley, Preston Claiborne, Michael Pineda, Adam Warren, David Phelps, J.R. Murphy and Dellin Betances are just the few that are already at the minor league complex (and we can’t forget the story that broke last week of David Phelps raving about Derek Jeter’s progression).

As the week goes on, more players are expected to show up, but to hold over until Friday, this week is pretty baseball oriented. On Monday, the YES Network will show Masahiro Tanaka‘s start from last season when he was with the Rakuten Golden Eagles and on Tuesday, Tanaka will fly to the Bronx to have an afternoon press conference at Yankee Stadium before heading down to Tampa, Florida to join his new teammates.

Notes and News

— Speaking of Jeter, he took three rounds of live batting practice (33 swings this morning). He also is doing long toss this morning and there’s a picture of it, courtesy of Erik Boland of Newsday.
