Gardner has 2 RBI’s but Yanks fall to Rays 5-4

Brett Gardner 13

Brett Gardner drove in two runs, but it wasn’t enough as the Yankees dropped their second game in a row with a 5-4 loss to the Rays.

Adam Warren had a shaky start to his outing, giving up a home run to the lead-off hitter Ben Zobrist. At the end of 2.1 IP, he gave up one run on four hits, however he needed 44 pitches to get to that point. Warren said he felt he did better this time around, feeling pleased he was able to cut down on the walks.

“I thought it was a step in the right direction,” Warren said. “I was a little ill about the walks last outing, so I really focused on that. I still want to get in better counts and get ahead of batters a little better, so I’ll keep working on that. I still need to refine some things, and that’s what Spring Training is for.”

Dellin Betances sparkled against the Rays, giving up no runs in his 1.2 innings of work. Robert Coello struggled, giving up four runs, including a go ahead HR to Matt Joyce.
