Nova struggles as Yanks fall to Phillies 6-2 in Clearwater

Ivan Nova had a rocky third inning in another rocky start as the Yankees fell to the Phillies 6-2 in game one of a split squad series.

Nova went five-innings giving up three runs on nine hits with six strikeouts, but his troubles occurred in the third inning when he gave up an RBI single to Marlon Byrd, a single to Ryan Howard and the third run scoring on a double play by Carlos Ruiz.

Preston Claiborne gave up three runs in the 8th inning on a double by Reid Brignac and a two-run double by Tommy Joseph.

Jacoby Ellsbury scored the Yankees first run in the 7th with his first home run and RBI of Spring Training. Francisco Cervelli singled in Rob Segedin for the second and final run of the game.

    I didn't see the game, but looking at the stats it doesn't look like he struggled. He had one bad inning out of 5. Had he pitched one more it would have qualified as a quality start.
