The Yankees were able to get to R.A. Dickey early, but the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead as the Yankees fell to the Blue Jays 10-6 at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.
The offense scored six runs in the first two innings; in the first inning a Derek Jeter walk and singles from Carlos Beltran, Alfonso Soriano and Kelly Johnson gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead. In a four-run second, Dean Anna and Beltran each had a pair of RBI doubles, giving the Yankees a 6-0 lead.
Chris Leroux, who was the starter, was charged with two runs on five hits in three innings. Fred Lewis, who is being considered for a bullpen spot, gave up two runs and Preston Claiborne gave up six runs without recording an out during the Blue Jays eight-run fifth inning. Following the game, Joe Girardi wasn’t sure if Claiborne was going to make the team to begin the season since he has a 14.29 ERA this Spring.
— CC Sabathia will get his fifth and final start of the Spring as he travels to Bradenton, Fla to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The first pitch will be at 1:05 p.m. and the game will air on MLB.TV.
