One Response to Audio: McCann discusses home plate collision rule confusion

  1. Robert says:

This is a rule that's going to have to be changed. When there's a play at the plate, conditions are variable. The ball can be coming in on the 3B side, straight on, or on the 1B side, and the catcher has to position himself to catch it. He can't give away a run just to let a runner score without risking being tagged out. In addition, the catcher is pretty vulnerable to a hard slide or a collision, despite his gear, because his attention has to be on the ball.
