CC struggles as Yanks fall 6-2 to Astros on Opening Day

After 17 scoreless innings in Spring Training, CC Sabathia was hoping to make a good start on his planned come back in 2014. Instead, he gave up six runs in the first two innings as the Yankees fell 6-2 to the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.

Sabathia who was making his 11th career Opening Day start, gave up four runs in the first inning on an RBI single by Jose Altuve, a fielders choice by Jason Castro and a two-run home run by Jesus Guzman. Sabathia gave up two more runs in the second inning on a home run by L.J. Hoes and and another RBI single by Jose Altuve.

The Yankees bats didn’t wake up until the eighth inning, when Brian McCann singled to score Jacoby Ellsbury which was followed by a shift beating RBI single from Mark Teixeira to score Derek Jeter. Jeter, who was making his final Opening Day start went 1-for-3 with a hit by pitch and a run scored.

What’s Next?

Hiroki Kuroda will take the ball against the Astros as the Yankees attempt to get back into the win column. Jarrod Cosart is slated to pitch for the Astros. First pitch will be at 8:05 p.m. ET and the game will air on the YES Network.

    No nice way to say it, CC blew in the first 2 innings. After that he seemed to settle down, but the damage was done by then.
