When Francisco Cervelli came out of yesterday’s game with a hamstring issue, it didn’t look very good. The Yankees sent him to get an MRI and it looks like Cervelli will spend some time on the disabled list.
The Yankees announced Cervelli will go on the disabled list with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. They’ll make the corresponding move before tomorrow night’s game. The Yankees also announced they optioned Shane Greene to Triple AAA. The Yankees are expected to bring up a catcher and a position player.
For the catcher, it’s almost certain Austin Romine will be back. As for the position player, my bet is on Scott Sizemore. He has been hitting well in Triple AAA with a .344 average. If he hits like that in the majors, he could be a helpful addition to the ball club.
– Brian McCann had precautionary X-Rays after yesterday’s game and they came back negative. McCann was hit in the hand during the eighth inning but stayed in the game following the injury to Cervelli. McCann considered it a non issue after the game, but the Yankees wanted to make sure.
– Carlos Beltran was announced as the AL Player of the Week by Major League Baseball. In the span of a week, Beltran batted .423 (11-for-26) with four doubles, six RBI and seven runs scored. This is the tenth time Beltran had the honor oiverall, and the fourth time he was honored with the Player of the Week while in the American League. He last won it with the St. Louis Cardinals on May 14, 2012.
