Brendan Ryan has been missing from the 25-man roster since the season began, battling a back injury. Now, Ryan can return to the Yankees as early as tomorrow as the Yankees prepare for a seven game road trip to Anaheim and Milwaukee.
According to Dan Barbarsi of the Wall Street Journal, Girardi said it’s a possibility Ryan returns tomorrow and if he does, the Yankees wouldn’t have to make a drastic roster move. Michael Pineda, who is scheduled to come off his suspension tomorrow, will most likely go on the disabled list with a strain in his teres major muscle. The Yankees would then have 25-men on the roster if they include Ryan and that would mean Yangervis Solarte could stay with the team.
I’ll have more pre-game notes before today’s game, but the possibility of Brendan Ryan returning tomorrow is good news for a team that has dealt with injuries early on this season.
