The Yankees have placed OF Carlos Beltran on the 15-day disabled list with pain in his elbow. To replace Beltran, the Yankees have called up Chase Whitley but they also need to make a 40-man roster move since Whitley originally was not on the 40-man roster. Beltran complained of pain in his elbow and when he went for an MRI, it was revealed there were bone spurs. The Yankees gave him a cortisone shot on Monday and now it’s the waiting game. Beltran hasn’t discussed surgery with the Yankees, and if they do decide to go through with the surgery, it will be 6-8 weeks before Beltran can return. They’ll make a decision at the end of Beltran’s DL stint.
I’ll place the corresponding 40-man roster move here when it becomes official.
40-Man Roster Move: The Yankees have taken Bruce Billings off the DL and have designated him for assignment.
