Instead of writing separate blog posts about the injuries, I figured it’d be better to kill two birds with one stone and list them all here.
Shawn Kelley: Let’s start with the bad blow: Shawn Kelley’s going on the DL with a back injury. He had been battling it since the Angels series and it hadn’t really gotten better. He’d only really miss a week since the Yankees can retroactive him. To replace Kelley on the roster, Zoilo Almonte was called up from Triple-A.
Carlos Beltran: Carlos Beltran has a old bone spur in his elbow and will take a cortisone shot. He’ll know if the shot worked in about two to three days and if not, then Beltran will elect for offseason surgery. Beltran complained of pain in his elbow during batting practice yesterday and was pinch-hit for by John Ryan Murphy later in the game.
Ichiro Suzuki: Ichiro Suzuki still has pain in his lower back so he’s sitting out for another day. He doesn’t think this is a DL situation, but the Yankees are being cautious with him.
Michael Pineda: All right, here’s where the good news comes in: Michael Pineda played catch in right field today and reported no problems. He’s still a while away from returning but this is progress.
Mark Teixeira: Mark Teixeira had the day off yesterday (aside from a pinch-hit appearance) because he felt like he was running through cement blocks. He’s back in the lineup tonight as the DH. He said last night he was going to play no matter what so I guess he was serious.
