It’s been a quiet series in Toronto so far offense wise and news wise, but there were some injury notes coming out of the big league club (and one injury in the minor leagues). Here’s the injury report:
Carlos Beltran: Well, Carlos Beltran’s return to the outfield won’t happen anytime soon. Beltran felt discomfort in his forearm and he has been shut down “indefinitely” by the Yankees. Beltran believes the forearm injury happened because he was trying to compensate his elbow, but he doesn’t feel it when he’s taking swings. Effective immediately, Beltran will be the permanent DH.
Slade Heathcott: So Slade Heathcott was projected to take Brett Gardner‘s spot in the outfield in 2015, you know, before the Yankees signed Jacoby Ellsbury and gave Gardner an extension. It turns out giving Gardner the extension was the right move. Heathcott is slated to miss the rest of the season in Double-A Trenton because he’s undergoing knee surgery for a second time. The problem was related to Heathcott’s last knee procedure , which cause him approximately the last month of the season. Heathcott will get his knee scoped in the latest procedure.
CC Sabathia: CC Sabathia will start a rehab assignment this weekend, which starts his 30-day clock. Sabathia was optimistic to return to the team before the All-Star break but with the way the Yankees are approaching this, it doesn’t seem to be the case.
