There was no news on Michael Pineda before yesterday’s game but we finally have Pineda’s results from his first throwing session.
According to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com, Pineda threw 25 pitches from 60 feet on Saturday and reportedly felt no pain or discomfort after throwing. Pineda had been out since May 6 with a strain in his teres major. He injured his back throwing a bullpen while suffering a 10 game suspension for the pine tar incident.
Pineda had shown that he was capable of pitching in the rotation, winning the fifth starter job out of Spring Training. However, with Pineda’s injury, the Yankees were forced to use David Phelps and Vidal Nuno until they can find a more reliable fixture in their starting rotation.
