Coming off a sweep against the Seattle Mariners, the Yankees packed their bags and made their way to Oakland, where they will face the first place Athletics in a three game set. For the first game of the series, the Yankees are going to send out David Phelps, who is in dire need of a bounce back start.
Phelps’s last two starts haven’t been very good good. He only went 5.2 innings while giving up seven runs on ten hits and striking out four in a 8-4 loss against the Kansas City Royals. The start before that he gave up six runs on six hits while striking out four in a 10-2 loss against the Seattle Mariners at Yankee Stadium. Phelps will have his work cut out for him as he’ll face Sonny Gray, who has been good for the Athletics this season. Gray gave up five runs on four hits while striking out seven in a 6-3 loss against the Baltimore Orioles, but the A’s are 8-5 this season when Gray starts.
The Yankees are also going to send Hiroki Kuroda and Vidal Nuno out against the Athletics this series and the Yankees hope they can turn their misfortunes against the A’s around. They lost the series at Yankee Stadium just a week ago and they’re hoping for some West Coast revenge. They did it against the Mariners, let’s hope they can do it against the A’s.
