Pitchers duel leaves sour taste as Yankees fall to Red Sox 2-1

Masahiro+Tanaka+Boston+Red+Sox+v+New+York+y8UmSjDf58Fl Masahiro Tanaka pitched a very good game for the New York Yankees, but a Mike Napoli home run in the 9th inning was the difference, sending the Yankees to a 2-1 loss against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York.

Tanaka pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on seven hits while striking out eight. The Yankees only run came in the third inning when Brian Roberts reached on an error, Yangervis Solarte was hit by a pitch, Brett Gardner had a sacrifice bunt and Derek Jeter had an RBI ground out, scoring Roberts.

While the Yankees lost, it doesn’t affect them in the AL East standings since the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles also lost.

What’s Next?

— The Yankees will send Chase Whitley to the mound under the bright lights of New York City and on National television. However, the task will not be easy as John Lackey will take the mound for the Boston Red Sox in the rubber game match of the series. First pitch is at 8:05 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN.
